Biographical

J. Scott McLain has practiced law for over 38 years and has been a professional mediator and arbitrator for the past 11 years. During that time, he has successfully mediated a wide variety of complex cases in all areas of civil litigation including wrongful death, personal injury, medical negligence, employment disputes, construction litigation consumer disputes, premises liability, partnership disputes, environmental matters and breach of contract claims. He has a reputation for tenacity, leading to a settlement rate of approximately 80%.  Mr. McLain served as Vice Chair of the State Bar of Texas Committee for the Disciplinary Rules of Professional Conduct.

Education

Mr. McLain received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas Pan American, Honors Program, in 1977, Summa Cum Laude. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas School of Law in 1980, with honors, and for high attainments in the study of law was made a member of the Order of the Coif. He received his mediation training at the Harvard Law School Program of Instruction for Lawyers and his arbitration training from the American Arbitration Association. He has received advanced mediation training from the Association of Attorney Mediators, the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals and the State Bar of Texas and advanced arbitration training from the American Arbitration Association. He is recognized as a “Credentialed Distinguished Mediator” by the Texas Mediator Credentialing Association.  Mr. McLain has also been selected for membership in the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals and the Texas Academy of Distinguished Neutrals.
