Biographical Notes:

Mr. Akin began training for mediation/arbitration in 1990 through U.S. Arbitration and Mediation. He traveled out of state for his initial training and then spent several months under Honorable Dee Johnson of Dallas, Texas, and Mr. Jerome Levy of Dallas, Texas, who are two very fine dispute resolution specialists. Mr. Akin now performs around 100 dispute resolutions per year while still maintaining an active trial practice.

Education:

Mr. Akin studied law at Baylor University, earning his B.A. in 1978 and his J.D. in 1981. He was a member of the Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity while at Baylor. Mr. Akin was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1981.

Mr. Akin is a member of the Gregg County Bar Association, the State Bar of Texas and the American Bar Association. He is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and is a Special Assistant Disciplinary Counsel to the Texas Commission for Lawyer Discipline. He is admitted to practice in the U. S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Mr. Akin is board certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and as a Civil Trial Advocate by the NBTA and ABOTA. He has been recognized as a 2008, 2009, and 2010 Texas Super Lawyer by his peers. Mr. Akin is also rated "AV" by the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory.
